Biography

I was born at home in Berkeley, California, USA on July 10, 1986. My mother is a US born art therapist, videographer, ecologist, and  environmental activist. My father was a civil engineer, a curandero healer, and a Zapotec indigenous leader. These roots gave me a strong multicultural and bilingual foundation. I spent most of my childhood in Mexico, living with my mother in an international ecovillage in the majestic mountains of Tepoztlan. From an early age, I became interested in the arts, environmental care, alternative education, architecture, nutrition, spirituality, personal growth and transformation.

During my first years of undergraduate studies, I found it challenging to choose a major, since I was passionate about myriad disciplines and fields of study. So I decided to explore many different subjects, including early education, dance, yoga, fine arts, fashion design, drama, math, political science, philosophy, and literature.

I began my formal work as an educator over 20 years ago when I participated in the launching of CosmiKids at The Chopra Center in San Diego, California in 2001. This ground-breaking enrichment program, designed to encourage children of all ages to develop their cognitive skills, self-esteem, and emotional intelligence, promotes children’s imagination, character, and inner wisdom.

I proceeded to work in a variety of child education centers. In 2010, I graduated with honors and awards in Child and Adolescent Development: Concentration in Young Child and Family from San Francisco State University. That same year, I received an award from the Marian Wright Edelman Institute for my “outstanding contributions in the early care and education field,” as well as the Lynn Steinman award in early care and education. My curiosity drove me to continue exploring new horizons. I lived in Uruguay for six years. I collaborated in the construction of an ecological house. I gave sensitization, non-violent communication, conflict transformation, and social-emotional learning workshops for preschool and school-age children in public rural schools. I volunteered to teach yoga in women’s prisons and cofounded the La Colmena School in the Sierras de Rocha, Uruguay.

Throughout my career, I have traveled to several countries including Brazil, Peru, Uruguay, Argentina, Mexico, Guatemala, India, Turkey, and the United States, researching alternative education, and have tailored personalized holistic tutoring and mentorship programs to suit my client’s needs, working with individual children and their families.

I awakened to the core importance that our first formative years have for the development and expression of our potential. I came to understand / I had an epiphany that allowed me to understand that studying early childhood education would enable me to enrich myself in all my areas of interest throughout my life. At the same time, this has inspired me to serve my clients and set the stage to encourage present and future generations to live their true essence creatively.

This is how I discovered the essence of my multidisciplinary vocation!

In 2016, I travelled to India to delve more deeply into the study of Bharatanatyam (classic devotional dance from Southern India). I also trained in Pranic Healing and became a certified yoga teacher. In India, I visited the Theosophical Society and the Krishnamurti Foundation. I found Krishnamurti’s revolutionary educational philosophy deeply inspiring and have continued to explore and incorporate self-inquiry into my personal life and teaching. This journey was life-changing. After 15 years living abroad, I returned to my beloved Mexico to take the position as Preschool Coordinator for El Sabino, an ecological Reggio Emilia/Montessori/Waldorf-inspired school in Tepoztlan, Morelos. I have developed and offered Emotion-Arts, a workshop for children to foster social-emotional development through puppetry, stories, and sensory exploration, which has been presented in several large festivals in Guatemala, Mexico, and the USA.
